Race for Riley and John Andretti gear up a win for kids! Print E-mail

The 9th annual Race for Riley presented by Cheerios and racing legend John Andretti raised over $100,000 for the Riley Hospital for Children.

New Castle - With help from WIBC’s Dave Wilson, General Mills and Kroger, the 9th annual Race for Riley presented by Cheerios raised over $100,000 for Riley Hospital for Children. The event was held August 4 at the New Castle Motorsports Park. Racing fans lined up for a chance to race against professional racecar driver John Andretti. To kick off the event, local sportscasters took part in the action. Dave “The King” Wilson broadcast live.

Children raced remote control cars while hanging out with the Lucky Charm’s Leprechaun and the Cheerio’s Honey Bee. Adults enjoyed WIBC’s Dave Wilson and browsed through silent auction items.

Through registration fees, silent auction items, Kroger icon sales, and General Mills’ donations, John Andretti and Race for Riley were able to raise over $100,000 for the second year in a row. An estimated 300 people attended this year event, surpassing last year’s numbers. Race for Riley has already gained increasing popularity and attendance is expected to continue growing. Race for Riley occurs every year on the Wednesday before the Brickyard 400. This was the first year the event was held at the New Castle Motorsports Park.
