Kroger Race for Riley Approaches $1 Million in Donations
Kroger Gears Up for Campaign to Benefit Riley Hospital for Children

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – July 20th – The Kroger Company is proud to announce a weeklong series of events that will raise a tremendous amount of money for Riley Hospital for Children.  Kroger’s “Race for Riley Presented by Cheerios” will exceed the ambitious goal of $1 million in donations in this 11th year of the fundraiser.

According to Kroger’s Central Division President, Bob Moeder, “This is a tremendous accomplishment reflecting an incredible volunteer effort by Kroger associates over the last decade.  No events we are involved in as a company generate more passionate employee volunteerism than those benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.  Riley Hospital is an extremely impressive health care institution and we are very pleased to focus our efforts this coming week in helping that hospital raise critical funds to help the children of our community.  We could not do this without the collaboration of our vendor partners General Mills and Dave Wilson of WIBC, as well as the passionate work of John Andretti.”

All Kroger stores in Indiana are currently participating in a promotion that gives customers $4 in General Mills coupons for every dollar they donate to Riley Hospital. Customers may donate $1, $2 or $5 to Riley Hospital at any cash register in any Kroger, Pay Less or Owen’s store in Indiana.  This campaign, in partnership with Cheerios, is expected to generate more than last year’s total of $161,400.

On Monday, July 23rd, Kroger employees will host the “Kroger Kids Carnival” at Riley Hospital from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. NASCAR driver John Andretti will be on hand to visit with the children and hand out goodie bags provided by General Mills. WIBC Radio personality Dave Wilson will broadcast live from the hospital atrium.

On Wednesday, July 25th, the 11th Annual “Kroger Race for Riley Presented by Cheerios” takes place at New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.   This event is open to the public and will be broadcast live on WIBC Radio. The park is located at I-70 and State Road 3.  Go-cart races will be held throughout the afternoon for those making a minimum $50 donation to Riley Hospital for Children. Those donating more than $250 and winners in various heats will have the opportunity to test their driving skills against John Andretti. Members of the media will participate in their own go-cart races.  This event has raised more than $888,000 in the past ten years.

As we approach the 26th Annual Kroger 200 NASCAR Busch Series Race on July 28th, fans will have the opportunity get up close to NASCAR Show Cars as part of the Kroger “Speed Fest Party.” This is being held at the Kroger store located at 8150 Rockville Road in Indianapolis. Plenty of food, beverages and one-of-a-kind racing items will be available in a silent auction benefiting Riley Hospital for Children.

The Kroger Central Division has 162 Food and Drug Stores with 45 Fuel Centers operating under five banners; Kroger, Scott’s, Owen’s, Hilander and Pay Less Super Markets with locations primarily in Indiana and Illinois, in addition to five stores in Missouri, one in Michigan and one in Ohio.
