$1 million and counting John Andretti never dreamed when he first committed to helping raise funds for the Riley Hospital for Children that 11 years later his Kroger Race for Riley would go past $1 million in contributions. "It's a milestone I never thought we'd reach," the Indianapolis native said. "That first year I think we raised less than $4,000. It's amazing how the support has grown." Andretti was drawn to Riley because his older siblings, brother Mark and sister Carolyn, both were treated there in their youth. Carolyn sustained serious injuries in a car accident in 1979. "People ask, 'Why Riley?' " Andretti said. "That's why." The event was held Wednesday, but the fundraising continues. At all Kroger-owned stores in Indiana through Aug. 4, every $1 donation will be worth $4 in coupons good for various General Mills products. Andretti, who competed in this year's Indy 500, passed on an opportunity to drive in the Brickyard to work for the IMS radio network.
